Volume Manufacturing for Electronic and Electro-mechanical devices

AES offers a flexible electronic contract manufacturing service that manufactures electronic and electro-mechanical devices from one off prototypes through to volume production.

The range of services includes:

  • Individual printed circuit boards – bare boards, surface mount assemblies, through hole and hybrid assemblies. Volumes range from individual PCBs to low thousands per month.
  • Single and multi-layered PCB assemblies with a range of finishes to ISO and UL standards
  • Box wiring and fit out
  • Device programming and testing

  • Enclosure design, manufacture and final assembly.

The electronic product design manufacturing process is typically based on a batch manufacturing structure often with client call-offs and scheduled production.

AES uses lean manufacturing methods to achieve a fast and reliable turn around. Sub-contract manufacture is also used to supplement in-house manufacture and to utilise specialist expertise in particular processes. Project management techniques are employed to ensure that the correct sourcing, integration and quality assurance measures are in place throughout the electronic product design manufacturing process.

Using in-house kitting together with scheduled, just in time deliveries enables electronic design and manufacture to be planned to suit clients’ requirements.

Sub-assemblies may be manufactured and tested ahead of the required delivery dates. This enables shortened critical path times to be achieved. The ability to configure and tailor finished specifications from preassembled sub-assemblies provides flexibility whilst reducing inventory.

An MRP system underpins the stock and workflow processes. Flexible batch manufacturing enables AES to meet surges in product innovation demand and to respond quickly to product design needs. The use of agreed standard operating procedures (S.O.P.) ensures batch to batch consistency. This is important when long gaps may occur between production call offs.

AES has a policy of continuous improvement and this drives the capital expenditure. Recent manufacturing investment includes:

ISO 13485 quality assurance accreditation underpins the electronic product design and manufacturing processes. The in-house design team supports the electronic product development process with the design and manufacture of automated and semi-automated test and assembly equipment.  Clients are often involved in the specification of the test regime and benefit from the resulting speed, accuracy and traceability that this promotes.
